Stabbing pain when you stand or walk after first getting out of bed is one of the strongest indicators that you’re suffering from plantar fasciitis. For effective and caring treatment of heel pain, visit Thomas Rambacher, DPM, FACFAS, FAPWCA, at Podiatry Hotline Inc. Plantar fasciitis can quickly put you on the sidelines and keep you from enjoying your active lifestyle. Pain typically manifests in the heel of the foot, but it’s possible to experience plantar fasciitis pain anywhere on the bottom of your foot.Īlong with heel pain, plantar fasciitis may bring swelling, stiffness, and tenderness. An inflamed plantar fascia is called plantar fasciitis. If the plantar fascia becomes irritated, torn, or damaged, pain is the result. It supports the arch of your foot and absorbs shock when you walk. The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, from your heel to your toes. If your child is suffering from foot pain, don’t dismiss it! Come see one of the physicians at Healthy Feet Podiatry so we can get your child back to playing with his or her friends. Are you suffering from heel pain? One of the most common causes of heel pain is plantar fasciitis. Immobilizing the affected side for 6-8 weeks is typically required in a removable boot or short leg cast, followed by custom orthotics to take extra stress off the navicular. Have no fear though, Kohler’s Disease will not likely cause permanent gait or developmental problems for your child if treated. In the image below, you can see the difference in the size of a healthy navicular bone (blue) versus one with Köhler’s Disease (red). This temporary compromise in blood supply to the bone leads to pain and a delay in development of the bone. Köhler’s Disease occurs when the blood supply to the navicular bone (the bone along the inside of the arch) is temporarily compromised. ![]() This condition is uncommon however, it shouldn’t be overlooked, especially in a child between ages 6-9. One more rare condition that must be considered with a child having arch pain is Köhler’s Disease. ![]() With the addition of a custom orthotic in your child’s shoe, you should notice a significant improvement in your child’s pain. From my experience, I’ve had parents tell me many times their child cries at night because of the pain. Other than icing, rest and anti-inflammatories the most tried and true treatment is custom molded orthotics. The combination of children being active and commonly having a low arch (flat feet) causes an abnormal pull of both the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon insertion site on the bone therefore, the pulling causes irritation on the growth plate. Because of the location of the growth plate in the heel in conjunction with the insertion point of the Achilles tendon, inflammation of the growth plate is very common (also known as Calcaneal Apophysitis or Sever’s Disease). Two common areas for children to have pain are their arches and heels. ![]() It is assumed that foot pain is normal in kids and is usually written off as “growing pains ” however, foot pain is not normal and should not be dismissed. A very common problem we see in children is general foot pain. At Healthy Feet Podiatry we pride ourselves on treating patients of all ages. ![]() ![]() ![]()

This enables the electricity and power to circulate in ways that are more optimal or useful for the needs of the building. #Automatic transfer switch generatorAnother protective measure that engineers use is that they need “cool down” times to forestall the generator from overheating.ĪTS designs sometimes allow for load shedding or changing the priority of other circuits. This protects the generator from overloading. Engineers generally design houses and transfer switches such that the generator remains independent from the system that distributes power throughout the building. Therefore the backup generator would begin to provide power. If your house had an ATS that controlled a backup generator, the ATS would start the generator when a power outage occurred. Once utility power is restored, ATS switches to utility power and commands generator shutdown. When the generator is prepared to provide power, the ATS switches emergency power to the load. When power fails, the automatic transfer switch commands the generator to start. (3)The ATS then commands the generator to shut down when the utility power is restored. (2)When the generator is prepared to perform, the ATS switches the emergency power to the load. This causes the generator to ready itself to provide electric power to the house. (1)When the electric power during a building goes out, the ATS starts the backup generator. One example of a step-by-step process an ATS may use is: They work by preventing the backup generator from being an electric power source before the backup generator is turned on for temporary power. They must also pass the load to the backup generator after that. Automatic Transfer Switch(ATS) Working PrincipleĪn ATS can control when a backup generator depends on the voltage within the primary supply for a building. ![]() They can only connect to a backup power source (engine-generator, backup utility) when it is necessary (primary source failure) or requested (operator command). Most automatic transfer switches, by default, seek connection to the primary power source (utility). The ATS will automatically pass (switch) the load circuit to the other power source (if one is available) if the connected power source fails. The control logic, also known as an automatic controller, is usually microprocessor-based and continuously tracks the electrical parameters (voltage, frequency) of primary and backup power sources. The main function of an ATS is to ensure that electric power is delivered continuously from one of two power sources to a connected load circuit (electrical equipment such as lights, motors, computers, and so on). ![]() How does an Automatic Transfer Switch(ATS) Work?Īn automatic transfer switch (ATS) is a self-acting, intelligent power switching device governed by the dedicated control logic. ![]() ![]()
